In case you have a broken, weakened or misshapened tooth, a crown can be fitted onto the tooth to improve its appearance. Dental professionals can prepare crowns using a state-of-the-art computer-aided technology.

There is a wide range of dental materials to choose from. The aim is to make your crowns look as natural as possible, so your dentist will match the artificial crown up to the shape- and, in the case of porcelain crowns, colour- of your other teeth. Depending on the environment, forces and dental care of the tooth, the crown can last for several years.

A temporary crown is made of tooth-coloured plastic to protect the tooth and the gum tissues until the permanent crown is prepared.

Dental crown procedure

Generally the dental crown procedure is completed during two visits.

• First visit:

Your dentist cleans the tooth removing any signs of decay.

Then the crown is filled down.

Impressions are taken of the prepared teeth to make sure the crown will not affect the bite.

A temporary crown is made to protect and cover the prepared tooth while the crown is being made. Temporary cement is used to hold it in place.

You should keep the temporary crown clean and avoid chewy, sticky and hard food.

• Second visit:

The temporary crown is removed.

The permanent crown is checked for colour and fit.

If everything is acceptable, local anesthetic is used to numb the tooth and the crown is permanently fixed in place with cement.

Permanent crowns and bridges can be made from all metal, porcelain fused to metal or porcelain fused to gold, or all ceramic.

We provide a 3-year-guarantee on crowns.
