Bridge work
Dental bridges are false teeth, which are fixed to neighbouring teeth so as to replace missing teeth. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from porcelain, gold, alloys or a combination of these materials.
Bridges are anchored by natural teeth or implants.

Dental bridge procedure
Two visits are required to fit the bridges and an approximate 7 days stay or visiting twice for 2 or 3 days.
• First visit:
Local anesthetic is given to numb the region.
Then the dentist prepares the teeth on either side of the gap by trimming them. Preparation involves recontouring them by removing a portion of enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them.
The dentist checks the colour of the natural teeth against a shade chart.
Impressions are taken of the prepared teeth to make a mould.
The patient is fitted with a temporary bridge to protect the prepared teeth between visits.
You are asked to avoid chewy, hard or sticky food and keep the temporary bridge clean.
• Second visit:
The temporary bridge is removed and the dentist checks the look, fitting and bite of the permanent bridge.
If you and your dentist are happy with your bridge, it is permanently fixed in place with cement.
